Unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 10 (incl. Pro & Ultra) phones have a hole punch cutout for their front-facing cameras, and as such, they do not come with a native notification LED, because why not? That’s the new way things should be done, all thanks to Samsung.
So, because of this, and for those who really want to get their hands dirty, I’m gonna show you a procedure by which you can use the hole punch camera cutout on these phones as a customized virtual hole punch inspired notification LED.
Here, check these ones out on the Samsung Galaxy S10 phones.
Looks cool, doesn’t it?
Yeah, sure it does.
So, what this does is, after setting it up by following all the steps which will be listed and discussed on this page shortly, whenever you have a new notification on your phone, you’ll get that super cool light ring glowing around the camera hole punch cutout of your Mi 10 phones.
Now let’s see how we can replicate same on our Xiaomi Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra smartphones. #enjoy.

Step One
First thing first, find your way to Google Play Store, search for and download the app named “aodNotify“, or better still, you can save yourself all that stress, and simply hit the button that says “Install” below.
When you’re done with the app download and installation, kindly open it for the first time, and you should be greeted with this welcome screen.
I bet you know what to do here. Simply tap the button that says “NEXT” at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and you’ll be redirected to the app’s permission page, from where you’ll be required to grant access to all the necessary permissions that will be requested from you by the app.
When you’re done granting said permissions, simply go ahead and tap the “DONE” button located at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and this time, you’ll be taken straight to the app’s homepage or main settings page.
Xiaomi Mi 10 notification LED – Step Two
With the app’s homepage showing on your Mi 10 phone screen, simply tap on the first setting option labeled “Notifications“, and you should have this new page opened to you.
From this page, you’ll select which apps can activate your custom hole punch notification LED when you receive a notification from them, and for mine, I selected all the apps installed on my phone.
And apart from receiving notifications from apps, you can also set the app to act as a custom battery indicator by setting the notification LED to light up when your phone’s battery gets to a particular percentage.
Step Three
When you’re done with the settings from the second step above, kindly make your way back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the next setting option there labeled “Notification light” and once again, a new page that looks like this will be opened to you.
Using this page, you’ll be able to customize your custom hole punch notification LED on your Xiaomi Mi 10 phones by adding and changing features like Style, Effects, and Dimensions.
“Style” lets you set the areas where you want the custom hole punch notification LED to be displayed on your phone’s screen, and in order to achieve the aim of this tutorial, we’ll set ours to be shown only around the camera hole punch cutout of our Xiaomi Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra smartphones.
When you’re done setting the areas using “Style”, the “Effects” option lets you add any one of the various animation effects to your hole punch notification LED.
And lastly, “Dimensions” is used to reposition and resize your custom hole punch notification LED, using the sliders provided on your phone screen.
By default, the notification LED will be positioned at the top center position of your Mi 10’s screen, so you’ll have to use the sliders to position it properly so that the virtual hole punch notification LED will be properly aligned with the actual hole punch cutout of your Mi 10 phone.
Xiaomi Mi 10 notification LED – Step Four
When you’re done repositioning and resizing to your heart’s fill, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the next setting option there labeled as “Settings“, and you should have this new page opened to you.
This page lets you choose whether you want to hide or temporarily disable the notification light when you have an incoming call. By default, set it to enabled, and do the same thing for the second setting option too.
For the last time, go back to the app’s homepage and select the next option which says “Colors” and you should have this new page opened to you.
The options on this page are self-explanatory enough, you can set individual notification color for each app on your phone if you wish, you can do the same for battery indicators as well, and even go further to set individual colors for various contacts on your phone, so that whenever you get a notification from any one of them, you’d already know who it was from by just glancing at your phone’s screen.
So, quickly do that, and meet us on the next step.
Final Step (Testing)
When you’re done setting everything up to your preference by following all the steps listed and discussed above, now it’s time that we take our setup for a spin, to confirm that it is working properly.
So, go ahead and close the app, as well as turn off your phone’s display. Now look for a second phone, and with it, try sending your phone anything that can trigger a new notification on it, a simple short text message should do the trick.
And now, once the notification arrives on your phone, you should see your custom hole punch notification LED in the form of a light ring, glowing around the camera hole punch cutout of your Xiaomi Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and 10 Ultra smartphones, as seen on these Samsung Galaxy phones.
If you did not see this on yours, kindly check back on the steps listed and discussed above to confirm if you’re not missing any one of them, or better still, you can leave a comment for us in the comments section below, telling us what area of the app setup that you’re facing issues, and we’ll try to respond to that as fast as we can.
But in the meantime, kindly give this post a thumbs up by sharing it if you find it helpful, and as always, I’ll see you all tomorrow, #Peace Out.
