If for some reason, you wish to get back on your past notification history on your Android phone, then you should read this article to the end.
Today I’m going to show you how to do that, in two different ways, the first one is somewhat limited in function but actually a (hidden) part of the Android system itself, and the other is a more robust setup that requires a third-party app to work. So without wasting much time, let us see how we can get back on those past notifications.
Notification History Option #1:A Limited But Very Simple And Useful Shortcut
Few folks know it, but Android’s actually had a built-in way to view past notifications for a few years now. As long as you’re using a device, that runs on Android 4.3 Jellybean or higher (and if you aren’t, for the love of Google, go get a new phone already), it should be hidden on your system and just waiting to be found.
All you need to do is follow the normal process for adding a widget to your home screen, usually by long-pressing on a blank area on your Home Screen and then selecting the Widgets option.
Search through the list for the item called “Settings shortcut“, and then drag and drop it to an empty space in your device’s Home Screen
Once you do, you should see a menu of available options. Find the one labeled “Notification log“, and tap it. That’ll give you a humble little icon on your home screen that looks a little something like this.
Tap the icon, and you’ll get a log of all the recent notifications that have come through on your device:
But wait, “I said “if you’d be a little observant, you should notice that this notification content doesn’t have any details attached to it. Like, say “We only knew that we had a missed call, but from whom?” see what I was telling you.
And that brings us to our option No. 2, which is more robust and functional, but only works, using a third-party application.

Notification History Option #2: The power-packed solution
The great John Lennon wisely said, “All you need is love.” As it turns out, his words from all those decades ago apply perfectly to our present conundrum. You just have to swap out “love” for an app called “Notif Log“, that makes it easy to view the full contents of past notifications.” (Close enough, right?)
So what are you waiting for? Head over to the Google Play Store on your Android device right now, and type in Notif Log into the Search Bar up there, and you should get this.
Install it, Open it, and Rejoice (or re-juice, if thirsty).
Notif Log does exactly what you’d want it to do. It gives you an easy way to look back at all of your recent notifications in their entirety.
Notif Log even lets you interact with certain old notifications via their action buttons. The app actually has its own internal snooze function for setting reminders about past notifications. To me, the ability to go back and look through past notifications is the real value to be gained here.
So let us keep hoping and dreaming that Android finally thinks and implements something like this, but in the meantime, I think this is the Best.
