Overview
Okay, so, for starters, the Tecno Pova 3 is not in any way an upgrade from the Pova 5G, instead, it’s the successor of the original Tecno Pova 2.
Compare now: Tecno Pova 3 vs Pova 2.
And as such, you get very similar specifications even in terms of the design, with just a few notable upgrades here and there.
So, to begin with, while having the same elephant-sized 6.9 inches display as the Pova 2, of course, the Pova lineup has always been known for its intimidatingly large displays, but this time, you now get a 90Hz refresh rate on top of it.

The panel is an LCD type, and the screen resolution stays the same at 1080p+.
In terms of performance, the Tecno Pova 3 gets the rebranded MediaTek’s Helio G88 chipset as opposed to the original Helio G85 found on the Pova 2, and it comes in 4 + 64GB & 6 + 128GB RAM and storage trims.

Unfortunately, you get Android 11 out of the box with Tecno’s heavily customized HiOS UI sitting on top of it, and as you already know with Tecno, the chances of getting Android 12 on this is like 0.1 out of 10, and not to even talk of the upcoming Android version 13.
But moving away from that, you get a 50MP main camera on here, and two other unspecified cameras which I’m very sure will be the usual 2MP depth and 2MP macro cameras, so there’s really nothing game-changing to experience here in terms of camera performance, and on the front is the usual 8MP front-facing sensor.
Though other aspects where Tecno might have improved on the Pova 3 coming from the Pova 2 is in the use of a Z-axis vibration motor which should produce better vibrations and haptics as opposed to the traditional motors used on most other mid-range phones, and the inclusion of a stereo speaker setup for the first time in the Pova lineup.
Moving forward, though you still get the massive 7000 mAh capacity battery that debuted on the Pova 2, instead of the 18W maximum charging speed you get on that phone, you now get up to 33W on the new model.
And one last trick that the Tecno Pova 3 has hidden up its sleeves is the colors.
So, the phone comes in three colors, namely; The Electric Blue, Tech Silver, and Eco Black. But if you went for the first one, it comes with an RGB light stripe at the back which supposedly will be used for techy stuff like maybe showing notifications, charging animations, who knows, might even light up during gameplay sessions, and you know, other related functions.
And that’s all that you get on the new Tecno Pova 3 for $172 (₦71,500) here in Nigeria. A similar design, same large 6.9 inches LCD display, this time with a 90Hz refresh rate, a rebranded MediaTek Helio G88 processor, Android 11 out of the box, better haptics, stereo speakers, same battery capacity with faster charging, and that’s it.
