Samsung Smart View – Did you know that Samsung phones, like other Android devices, support screen mirroring and casting to other gadgets? However, there’s a catch – the support has been somewhat limited.
Up until now, you could only cast your Samsung phone’s screen to smart TVs that use Miracast, via the Smart View feature. This has been the case for quite some time, and devices like Chromecast and other Android TVs couldn’t display your Samsung screen.
But hold on, there’s some exciting news! Android Police recently discovered a somewhat tricky method to enable screen casting to all sorts of devices. Apparently, it works on devices with One UI 5.1, but there’s a chance it might also work on older versions.
Here’s how you can do it:
First, open Smart View on your Samsung phone. Then, tap on the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner, followed by tapping on “Settings”. Inside the Settings menu, look for the “About Smart View” option.
Now, things get a bit quirky – tap on Smart View exactly ten times. Surprisingly, you’ll be prompted to enter a password, and that password is #00rtsp00. Doing this will reveal a developer options menu, where you’ll find the option to enable Google Cast.
Once you’ve enabled Google Cast, go back to the Smart View menu, and voilà! You’ll now see non-Miracast TVs and Chromecast listed as available devices for screen mirroring. Pretty cool, right?
Oh, and there’s more! You can also use the same steps to enable the “Start SecondScreen” feature, which lets you extend your Windows 10 or 11 PC’s desktop environment to your Samsung phone. To quickly connect to your phone, simply press the Windows key + K.
It’s great that Samsung is finally offering support for these features, but it’s a bit frustrating that they hid them in secret menus. It feels like a disservice to all users who could benefit from these capabilities. Hopefully, Samsung is just testing things out and will officially support these features in the upcoming versions of One UI. Fingers crossed!
