Overview
So, first of all, why would anyone want to buy the Samsung Galaxy S6 in 2022?
Now, don’t get me wrong as I’m not in any way saying it’s a bad device or anything like that, in fact, for starters, the Galaxy S6 was the first smartphone that marked Samsung’s first step into venturing into the premium smartphone segment in terms of build quality;
It was the first phone where Samsung used glass for the body after years of sticking with plastic materials.
It was also the first phone from Samsung to flaunt a 1440p (2K) resolution display, oh, did I mention that it has a curved screen version too?
Yes, it was among the first Samsung smartphones to adopt the curved edge display, dubbed the Galaxy S6 Egde, and has seen other manufacturers quickly adopt it on their premium range of phones.
So, you can see where this is going, the Samsung Galaxy S6 as of then (2015), was everything and more that you could ever ask for in a smartphone, but, what of in 2022?
Does it still retain and carry that glory and legacy it had in 2015, is it worth buying, are there not better options out there within the same price range, and what would make anyone want to buy this phone in 2022?
Well, let’s find out.
Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy S6 in 2022?
Well, for starters, one of the main reasons I know for sure that pushes most people to want to buy older models of smartphones is the price.
So, if you’ve always envied Samsung smartphones, and always dreamed of using one, but don’t have the money to afford the latest and greatest that the company has to offer right now, then why not just settle for the Galaxy S6, right?
But take note that if you’re settling for this phone, then you should make up your mind that you’re settling for an outdated processor, the Samsung Exynos 7420, a 14nm chipset, but don’t get me wrong though as outdated doesn’t mean slow and unusable, cause who knows, even this chipset might outrun some of the mid-range and entry-level offerings we have from the likes of MediaTek, and maybe even the Qualcomm 600-series if put to test.
Secondly, and like I mentioned before, you’ll be getting one of the sharpest displays on a smartphone even in 2022, and don’t forget about the premium glass build too which is made out of Corning Gorilla Glass 4;
But, you’ll still have to live with an outdated camera system, a single 16MP rear shooter, and a 5MP front-facing one, but, I mean, it’s not like the camera picture quality should be the problem of anyone who’s buying a phone that came out in 2015, you should already know what you’re getting yourself into, isn’t it?
Furthermore, you have to make up your mind that you’ll be living with an outdated software version as the phone launched with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, and the best you can upgrade it to is Android 8.0 Oreo, with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
And to top it all off, do take note that you’ll be spending the rest of your life with a meager 2550 mAh capacity battery, and one of the worst reputations that Samsung phones have had in the past up to the days of the Galaxy S8 was their very poor battery life, so I bet you’ll also want to invest in a very good charging brick if you’ve made up your mind to buy this phone.
So, in conclusion, and like I said before, I’m not in any way trying to label the Samsung Galaxy S6 as a bad phone, but in 2022, and at a price range between ₦37,000 – 50,000, trust me, it’s definitely very hard to recommend to anyone.
Except you don’t plan on using it for long, perhaps you’re temporarily short on cash and just need a phone you’ll use for making calls, browsing the internet, doing social media, and all that until you can get a better phone, then it’s fine.
And that is basically all that you’ll get with the Samsung Galaxy S6 at its current retailing price in Nigeria.
