After what seemed like forever, we’ll finally get to see what the Samsung Galaxy S21 series for 2021, are gonna look like, feel like, and be like.
So in a couple days from today, Jan 14th to be precise, Samsung will be finally taking the veils off its latest flagship Galaxy phones for the world to see, and probably buy, but before that time, here’s all the rumors that we’ve gathered so far, and everything that one needs to know about the upcoming Galaxy smartphones.
Design
As rumored, the Samsung Galaxy S21 will be a bag of mixed feelings, due to the choice of materials that Samsung has decided to make use of for this year’s flagship.
For starters, the vanilla Galaxy S21 which will be the smallest among them will come with plastic on its back, as opposed to the Gorilla glass that Samsung has always used on its past flagships.
As expected, a lot of fans are definitely not happy with this new development from Samsung, knowing the fact that the Galaxy S smartphones have always been perceived as top of line phones, and they also cost as much.
So people feel that for a premium smartphone as such, they should be built with premium materials, and glass is one material which smartphone makers like even the Samsung in question, have over the years made everyone to believe are materials that are reserved for the premium smartphone segment, so shipping a phone like the Galaxy S21 with plastic seems off to most people, even me.
While the vanilla Galaxy S21 has been confirmed to come with plastic on its back, the S21+ is still under speculation if it will come with same plastic, or if it will continue the glass trend from the previous Galaxy S generations, but we’ll only be able to confirm this information when the phones are finally unveiled on Thursday.
But the S21 Ultra has been confirmed to come with glass, probably the latest Gorilla glass 7, codenamed “Gorilla glass victus”.
Display
The design is not the only place where Samsung is planning to make a U-turn on its Galaxy S smartphones, as it has also been rumored that the phones, the vanilla S21 and S21+ precisely, will be coming with flat 1080p displays, as opposed to the stylishly curved 1440p displays that have been known as Samsung’s trademark display for its flagship phones over the years.
While the S21 Ultra will retain the curved display signature, although it is now less curved, even so less than those from the Galaxy S20 series from last year, and will still retain the 1440p resolution.
Personally, I feel like this is basically Samsung telling people that, if you want to enjoy a complete flagship experience from the S21 series, then go for the Ultra model.
And as expected, a lot of fans out there are definitely not gonna take this lightly with Samsung, as most people are already shifting their focus from Samsung and looking into other smartphone brands such as Xiaomi.
For the records, the Galaxy S21 series are gonna come in the following screen sizes;
- 6.2 Inches for the S21.
- 6.7 Inches for the S21+, and
- 6.8 Inches for the S21 Ultra.
All three phones are gonna come with Gorilla glass Victus on their displays, they’re gonna have a peak brightness of 1300 nits, which is one of the brightest you can get on any smartphone today, and they are gonna come with 120Hz variable screen refresh rate. And for the records, the S21 Ultra will finally be able to run 120Hz on full resolution.
Cameras
The cameras on the S21 and S21+ will be largely unchanged from those on the Galaxy S20 and S20+ series from last year. We’re talking about the same 12MP main, 64MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide snappers.
Perhaps we’re likely gonna be seeing some magic done behind the lenses in terms of image processing, so the image quality is definitely gonna be a lot improved and better than what you’d get on a Galaxy S20 phone.
So while the S21 and S21+ will be shipping with last year’s sensors, the S21 Ultra will be the man of the show, as it is rumored to come with a 108MP main sensor, this will likely be the upgraded Samsung’s 2nd generation HM2 sensor, or the yet to be announced HM3 variant, as reported by GSMArena.
In addition to this, the Ultra model main camera will be accompanied by a 10MP periscope telephoto lens that is capable of doing up to 10x optical zoom, another 10MP regular telephoto lens with 3x zoom capabilities and a 12MP ultrawide snapper.
The Ultra will also have a laser autofocus module in replacement of the 3D ToF sensor that was used on the S20 Ultra model from last year, for improved focusing.
Performance
As expected, the S21 series will be coming with Qualcomm’s latest and yet fastest Snapdragon 888 chipset for users in the United States, China, and Korea. While the rest of the world gets Samsung’s also latest and yet fastest Exynos 2100 chipset.
In the past, Samsung chipsets have never really been able to match up to their Snapdragon counterparts, especially in terms of their graphical performances, battery endurance, and the ability to remain cool during intensive usage, but it is possible that things are likely going to change this year, as Samsung is really putting a lot of confidence on its chipset this year, and they’re even going as far as hosting an event tomorrow, dedicated only to the reveal of the chipset.
And as long as memory and storage is concerned, the Galaxy S21 and S21+ are gonna come with a base configuration of 8 Gigabytes of RAM, and 128 Gigabytes of storage, while the Ultra model will come with 12GB Gigabytes of RAM, same 128 Gigabytes of storage, and a gangster version that goes all the way up to 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
The S21 and S21+ are not gonna have expandable storages though, that feature has now become a luxury on the Galaxy S flagships, and will only be reserved for the Ultra model, even when it does come with up to 512GB of storage.
All phones are gonna be running Android 11 out the box, which will be laced with Samsung’s latest version of its One UI custom OS, the One UI 3.1.
Battery & Charging
4000mAh for the vanilla model, 4800mAh for the plus model, and 5000mAh for the Ultra model. The vanilla and plus models will be able to charge at a speed of 25W, while the Ultra model is rumored to go all the way up to 45W.
None of these phones will be coming with either chargers or earphones in their boxes by the way, so just keep that in mind.
As always, you’re getting stereo speakers tuned by AKG on all three phones, and ultrasonic in-display fingerprint readers.
So guys, like i said at the beginning of this article, this is only just a rumor roundup of the Galaxy S21 series, none of these rumors can be confirmed to be 100% true, until the official unveiling of these phones by Samsung themselves which is just a couple of days ahead.
So keep your fingers crossed, take everything written in this article with only a pinch of salt and a lil bit of pepper, who knows, the rumors of the plastic backs and 1080p displays might just be false. LOL.
So let’s wait till Jan 14th, and as always, I’ll see you all tomorrow, #Peace Out.
