Overview
So, for a mid-range phone that was launched way back in 2015, what makes the Samsung Galaxy J7 worth buying even in 2022?
Well, perhaps the price, I mean, for about ₦25,000 – 30,000, it falls among the cheapest old Samsung phones that you can get your hands on right now, and other notable mentions that fall in the same price range are the iconic Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, and Note5 phones, feel free to check them out too if you want to.
But, aside from the price, what do you stand to get with this phone if you finally made up your mind to go for it?
Well, like most mid-range phones you can find nowadays, you’ll be treated to an 5.5 inches 720p Super AMOLED display with a total pixel density of about 267 PPI, the phone comes with a plastic build with glass on the front, I mean, it’s not like you should even be expecting anything more than that in this price range as even most recent mid-range phones that are announced daily nowadays still come with a plastic build, so, no offense here.
Moving away from the display and build quality, you’ll be treated to an outdated Android 5.1 Lollipop version with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on it, though it can be updated up to Android 7.0 Nougat, it’s still in the outdated category by the way, and Samsung has moved away from TouchWiz UI, now to One UI.
Moving further, you shouldn’t be expecting the best camera picture quality from this phone, first is because it’s a mid-range with a 13MP shooter on the back and 5Mn on the front, and second is because it’s now pretty old, even flagship phones from the same as the Galaxy J7 can’t keep up with most mid-range phones of nowadays in terms of camera picture quality.
The processor in charge here is pretty old too, I’m talking of the Exynos 7580, a 28 nm chipset that came out in the same year as the J7, and it is paired with a meager 2GB of RAM capacity, and 16GB of internal storage.
And lastly, coming to the battery, this thing is powered by a 3000 mAh capacity cell, and this is one of the few phones that you can find nowadays rocking a removable battery, but good luck trying to find a replacement battery for it in 2022.
So, in conclusion, don’t expect the fastest speed and most-fluid performance from this phone, and don’t expect the take the best photos you can with the cameras on it.
But if none of those things mentioned above doesn’t bother you and you just need the cheapest Samsung mid-range phone that your pockets could afford right now, then it’s definitely not a bad idea to go with the Samsung Galaxy J7.
