Overview
Okay, to begin with, the Galaxy A73 5G when compared to its predecessor, the A72, can be seen in two ways.
Either as an upgrade or a downgrade, and this is when considering the features or specs that have been upgraded as opposed to those that have been completely removed.
Let’s start with those that have been removed.
Missing features
So, for starters, once you get the Galaxy A73 5G and open the box, the first thing you’ll notice is the absence of a charger in the box.
Is this a downgrade?
Definitely a “Yes”.
I mean, this was supposed to be a mid-range device, right? And midrange devices aren’t supposed to be missing their chargers in their boxes.
Now once you’ve gotten the phone out of the box, and start admiring the looks of it especially if you got the Blue or Mint color variants, another sad reality that will hit you is the absence of a 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom.
And for the last omission which is not very obvious at first glance, but becomes apparent the moment you fire up the camera app and decide to take 3x telephoto shots as you would normally do with the Galaxy A72 is the fact that the 8MP 3x telephoto camera we got on the A72 is nowhere to be found on the new model.
But on a positive note, you now get an improved 108MP main camera sensor as opposed to the 64MP sensor that was seen on the predecessor.
And those are all that’s missing on the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G phone. Now let’s see all of the things that’s been upgraded or improved.
Shall we?
Upgraded features
To begin with, 5G.
Yes, getting the Galaxy A73 5G means you’ll be getting 5G out of the box, of which the same cannot be said for the A72 that was stuck on 4G.
And coming to the display, the A73 5G takes on the already excellent display of the A72 and makes it even better by offering a higher screen refresh rate all the way from 90Hz to 120Hz while keeping the size the same at 6.7 inches, and at a 1080p resolution.

Now for the cameras, and as I already pointed out before, it’s a game of you win some, and you lose some.
So, while you no longer get the 8MP 3x telephoto zoom lens that featured on the A72, the main camera has now been upgraded to a 108MP sensor still with OIS as before, and you still get the 12MP ultrawide sensor, alongside a 5MP macro sensor, and a second 5MP depth sensor.
Again, as before, you can shoot 4K videos at up to 30 frames per second using both the rear and front-facing cameras.
And finally, coming to the software side of things, as expected, the new phone comes with the latest Android and One UI versions out of the box which is a good thing, and, to make things even better is the fact that Samsung is committing to 4 solid years of Android version updates for the phone, and 1 extra year of security updates, making it a total of 5 years.
So, that means, if you should get this phone with Android 12 right now, and wish to hold it up to 4 years, you should be among those to get the Android 16 update in 2026, making it (including the A53 5G) one of the most future-proof mid-range Android phones to date.
So, aside from those, other features that we’ve come to expect on the A73 5G which are also featured on its predecessor are stuff like the IP67 dust and water-resistant rating, a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection, an OIS-enabled main camera sensor, a solid set of stereo speakers, complete with Dolby Atmos audio tunning, a 5000 mAh battery that refills using a 25W fast charging medium, etc.
