How to set up & use a customized virtual hole punch notification LED on your Xiaomi Redmi K40 (Pro, Pro+) and POCO F3 phones.
Step One
Quickly head to Google Play Store and download the aodNotify app, or better still, you can save yourself the stress and time of going to the Play Store, and simply tap on the button that says “Install” below.
When you’re done downloading the app, open it for the first time, and you’ll be greeted with a welcome screen that looks this way.
Of course, tap the button that says “NEXT” at the bottom of your phone screen to proceed, and a new page will be shown to you from where you’ll be required to grant the app access to the permissions which will be requested from you.
When you’re done granting said permissions, tap the button that says “DONE” at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and this time, you’ll be officially ushered into the app’s main settings menu or homepage.
Xiaomi Redmi K40 & Poco F3 notification LED – Step Two
From the app’s homepage, kindly tap on the first setting option there, labeled “Notifications“, and when you do that, you should have a new page that looks this way.
This page lets you set triggers for your custom hole punch notification LED to light up. Triggers such as when you receive a new notification from selected apps, or when your phone’s battery level drops to a particular percentage.
So, quickly go ahead and set what apps you wish to get notifications from on this page, which will in turn light up your custom hole punch notification LED on your Xiaomi Redmi K40 (Pro/Pro+) and Poco F3 phones.
When you’re done on the page, kindly go back to the app’s main settings menu page, and this time, tap on the next setting option there, labeled “Notification light“, and when you do so, you should have a new page that looks this way.
As you can see from your phone’s screen, this page lets you customize your virtual hole punch notification LED, by adding characteristics such as Styles, Effects, and even changing the Dimension.
The “Style” option lets you set the areas of your phone screen where you want the virtual hole punch notification LED to be shown and to achieve our aim of this tutorial, we’ll set ours to be shown only around the camera hole punch cutout of our Redmi Note 10, 10 Pro (Max), and 10s phones.
The “Effects” option lets you select any one of the various animation effects to add to your virtual hole punch notification LED, while “Dimensions” lets you resize and reposition the notification LED, in case it doesn’t fit and align properly with the actual hole punch cutout of your phone, you can just use the sliders present on your phone screen to adjust and resize it until it does.
Step Three
When you’re done setting things up the way you want them to be from Step.2 above, kindly go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the next setting option labeled “Settings“, and you should have a new page that looks this way.
This page lets you set the option to hide the hole punch notification LED when you have an incoming call, and it also lets you set a way to dismiss the notification LED by double-tapping on your phone screen, which will, in turn, take you to your lock screen.
When you’re done on this page, go back to the app’s homepage for the last time, and this time, select the next option labeled “Colors“, and you’ll be taken straight to a new page that looks this way.
From this page, you’ll be able to set various custom colors for the virtual hole punch notification LED on your phone.
You can give each app its own unique color so that you know what app exactly it is that you received a notification from the moment you glance on your phone’s screen. You can also set a separate color to show your phone’s battery level, etc.
Final Step (Testing)
Alright, after you’re done setting everything up with all the steps listed above, it is finally time that we take the app and all the settings done in it for a spin.
And to do that, first of all, you’d have to close the app, next, turn off your phone’s display, then get a second phone, and use that phone to send anything that can trigger a new notification on your phone, a quick short text message will do.
Now, when this notification arrives, you should see your new hole punch notification LED in the form of a light ring, glowing around your hole punch cutout of your Xiaomi Redmi K40 (Pro/Pro+) or POCO F3 phone.
