How to set up a customized hole punch inspired notification LED on your Realme 7, 8, and X50 smartphones.

Okay, so here’s the thing, if you own any one of these Realme phones, the Realme 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, and X50 Pro, today, I’m gonna show you how you can set up your own customized virtual hole punch inspired notification LED on these phones.

So, if it does, how do we replicate this same thing on our aforementioned Realme phones?

Well, it’s simple, but, before we get to that, let me first introduce you to the app that we’re gonna make use of for this tutorial.

It’s called the “aodNotify” app, though there are other similar and even more robust apps like it on the Play store, like the “AOE – Always-on Edge” app, this one is a lot simpler to understand and easier to work with.

So, what the app does is, after we are done setting it up on our Realme phones, the next time we get a new notification on these phones, the app adds a glowing light ring around the camera hole-punch cutout of our smartphones as shown on the pictures above.

It does this in a bid to mimic a notification LED, and replace the traditional notification LED that has now gone extinct with the rise of hole-punch cutouts on smartphone displays. All thanks to Samsung.

So, for those who don’t like using the Always-on display feature on their phones, but still want a means to know when they have a new notification without picking up or turning on their phone’s display, this app might just be the closest thing that can help you with that.

And with that out of the way, now let’s get started. #enjoy.

How to set up a customizable virtual hole punch inspired notification LED on your Realme 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, and X50 Pro phones.

Step One

First thing first, with your Realme 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, or X50 Pro smartphone in your hand, quickly head down to Google Play Store and download the app I just told you about, using the keyword “aodNotify” to search for it, or better still, you can simply hit the “Install” button below to start downloading it right away.

When you’re done downloading it and must have gotten it installed on your phone as well, go ahead and fire it up for the first time, and when you do so, you should have this welcome screen shown to your face.

From there, tap the “NEXT” button at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and you will be taken to a new page that looks like this, this is the app’s permission request page.

From here, you’ll be required to grant the app access to the necessary permissions which will be requested from you by it, in order for it to work properly on your phone.

When you’re done granting said permissions, gently hit the “DONE” button at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and this time, you’ll be taken to the app’s homepage, and it looks this way.

Realme notification LED: Step Two

From the app’s homepage shown from the image above, simply tap the first setting option there labeled “Notifications“, and immediately you do so, you will be taken to a new page that looks this way.

And from this page, you’ll get to set or select what apps or events will be able to trigger the hole punch notification LED when you receive a new notification from them, or whenever the event happens.

Events could be anything ranging from when your phone’s battery is low to when you plug the phone to a power source to charge, or even when the phone’s battery gets filled up to notify you that it’s done charging, etc.

This page basically gives you the power to set how the app interacts with notifications on your phone, and as you can see, some options from the page are locked by default, meaning that they can only be unlocked when you purchased the Pro version of the app, but this free version should be enough to give us our desired results.

And when you’re done setting things up the way you want them on this page, kindly hit your back button to return to the app’s homepage, and from there, tap on the second setting option there that says “Notification light“, and you should have a new page that looks this way.

Step Three

So, from this page, you get to customize how you want your notification LED to look and act whenever you receive a new notification on your Realme phones.

The page has three main additional setting options inside of it, namely; Style, Effects, and Dimensions.

The “Style” option lets you choose the areas of your phone’s screen where you want your hole punch notification LED to light up whenever you get a new notification, and the page itself is divided into two sections, the upper section which says “When screen is on“, and the lower one that says “When screen is off“.

So, for when your phone’s screen is on, kindly set it to “Disabled” as you can see from screenshots above, and for when your phone’s screen is off, kindly set it to around your phone’s “Camera edge” only.

Then coming down to the “Effects” option, this one lets you choose between different animation effects for your custom notification LED. You get quite a handful of them to choose from on the free version of the app, and when you upgrade to the paid version of it, you unlock even more of them.

And then finally, “Dimensions“.

By default, the app positions the hole punch notification LED at the top center position of your phone’s display, but since we have our Realme smartphones with their hole punch cutouts pushed to the left corner of their displays, then this is where we’ll use the “Dimensions” option to make sure that the hole punch notification LED is properly positioned where it should be, and with the right size.

So, you can use the sliders present on the page to adjust almost every part of the notification light, until you get the required result you want.

• The slider labeled “Thickness” lets you adjust how fat or thin that you want the notification light to be.
• The “Resize” slider lets you, well, you already know what that one does.
• Slider “Offset position X & Y” lets you adjust the position of the notification LED by giving you the freedom to move it up, down, left, and right.
• While slider “Offset size X and Y” lets you alter the size of the of the notification LED by either enlarging or reducing any of the four sides.

So, do these until the notification LED is properly positioned and is well fitted with the hole punch cutout on your Realme 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, and X50 Pro phones, then meet us on the next step below.

Realme notification LED: Step Four

When you’re done setting everything up with the Style, Effects, and Dimension options from the last step above, kindly go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, tap the next setting option there labeled “Notification preview“, and once you do so, you should be looking at a new page that looks this way.

From this page, you’ll get to set how you want the notification previews to look whenever you receive a new notification on your phone.

From here, you’ll get to set the icons that should be shown on the preview, how long you want the preview to stay on, the content of the preview, etc.

So, kindly take your time to customize things to your satisfaction, and when you’re done, make your way back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the next setting option you see there labeled “Settings“, and once you do so, you should have this new page staring at you.

From here, you’ll get to set how you want the app to behave or interact with your phone when you have an incoming call instead of a notification, should it keep showing the notification LED, or should it not do so.

From here too, you also get the chance to set a double-tap to wake gesture to wake up your device when the hole punch notification LED is active, and that’s pretty much everything you get to do on this page.

And when you’re done, for the last time, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, tap the next setting option labeled “Colors“, and you should be looking at a new page that looks this way.

Okay, so, this one is pretty straightforward, as from here, you get to add colors to your custom hole punch notification LED on your Realme 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, and Realme X50 Pro smartphones.

You can add app colors to different notifications from individual apps, say something like “Green” for WhatsApp, “Blue” for Facebook, and so on, and so forth.

You can even set battery colors to denote different states of your phone’s battery, say something like “Red” for a low battery signal, and maybe “Green” or “Blue” to show that it’s fully charged, and a lot more.

Step Five (final step).

So, finally, when you’ve finished doing your setup all the way from step one through step four above, then now is the time that we take the app for a spin to truly confirm that everything we’ve set in it so far, are all working the way they should.

So, at this juncture, go ahead and close the app, and turn off your phone’s display, now quickly get a second phone, and with that phone, try sending anything that will prompt a new notification on your phone, say something like a quick WhatsApp message, or even a quick short regular text message will do.

And when the notification arrives on your phone, if it was say something like a WhatsApp message, and you have set the app to work with the WhatsApp app installed on your phone, once the notification arrives, you should see your new custom hole punch notification LED in the form of a light ring, glowing around the camera hole-punch cutout of your either your Realme 7 Pro, or 8, or 8 Pro, or your Realme X50 Pro smartphone.
