How to set up a custom hole punch inspired notification LED on the Oppo Reno 3, 4 , 5, and 6 smartphones.
Step One
Quickly head down to the Google Play Store and download this app called the aodNotify app, or better still, you can simply hit the “Install” button below to do so.
When the app is done downloading and has gotten installed on your Oppo Reno phone, kindly go ahead and open it for the first time, and you should be greeted with this screen.
From here, go ahead and tap the “NEXT” button located at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and you should be taken to a new page that looks this way.
From here, you’d be required to grant access to all the necessary permissions that will be requested from you by the app, so, do that quickly, and when you’re done, of course, hit the “DONE” button at the bottom of your phone’s screen, and you should be staring at a new page that looks this way.
Oppo Reno notification LED – Step Two
From the app’s homepage that you can see from the picture posted above, simply go ahead and tap on the first option there labeled “Notifications,” and, once again, you should be staring at a new page that looks this way.
From this page, you’d be able to select apps or events that will activate the notification light. Events include things such as when your phone’s battery is low or when it is fully charged, etc.
Also from this page, you’d be able to set how the app handles notifications when you unlock the phone, and also choose whether to wake your phone screen when a new notification arrives, and so much more.
So, kindly take your time to set things up to your liking, and when you’re done, you can join us on the next step below.
Step Three
Now when you’re done setting things up from step two above, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, tap the next setting option there labeled “Notification Light“, and you should be taken to a new page that looks this way.
From this page, you’d get to customize your hole punch notification LED by choosing a style for it, adding effects, and setting the dimensions right.
The “Style” option lets you select the area or areas of your phone’s display where you want the notification light to be shown, and for this, you have the option to choose between showing it around your screen edges, or just around your phone’s hole punch camera edges.
And for the sake of what this tutorial stands for, we’re gonna set ours to always show only around the hole-punch camera edges of our Oppo Reno 3, 4, 5, and 6 smartphones. And remember to set it to “Disabled” for when your phone’s screen is off.
Next up is the “Effects” option, and as the name implies, it lets you add any of the various animation effects to your custom notification LED.
And lastly is the “Dimensions” option, and what this one does is; it lets you resize and reposition the notification light so that it fits perfectly with the hole punch cutout of your Oppo Reno phone.
- Offset position X & Y sliders are for positioning, and they let you move your custom hole punch notification LED either to the left, right, up, and down.
- While Offset size X & Y sliders are for resizing, and they let you increase or decrease the size of notification LED from all four sides until you get the perfect fit for the actual hole punch cutout present on your Oppo Reno smartphones.
- You can hit the “Reset” button anytime to go back to the default settings incase you got things messed or mixed up.
Oppo Reno notification LED – Step Four
For a couple more times, go back to the app’s home screen, and this time, tap the next setting option there that says “Notification preview“, and once again, you should have a new page that looks this way.
This page lets you set how you want the preview to look whenever you get a new notification. From here, you can set how long you want the preview to be by setting the “Display time“, the content of the preview such as texts, notification icons, colors, etc.
And after that, kindly make your way back to the app’s homepage, and this time, tap the “Settings” setting option.
From this page, you’d be able to set how the app behaves when you have an incoming call, whether to temporarily disable the notification light, or to keep showing it, and from here, you can also set a double tap to wake feature amongst other things.
And when you’re done there, kindly go back to the app’s homepage for the last time, and this time, tap on the next setting option you see there labeled “Colors“, and you should be looking at a new page that looks this way.
This one in itself is very self-explanatory, as all you’ve got to do here is add colors to your hole punch notification LED.
So, from here, you can choose between using separate colors for separate apps, say, blue color for when you receive a new notification from the Facebook app, green for WhatsApp notifications, maybe Red for when your phone’s battery is low, and so on, and so forth.
And for those who like to keep things simple, you can use just one color option for everything, you know the saying; one color to rule them all.
So, take your time to set things up the way you want them to be from this page, and when you’re done, well, meet us on the next step.
Step Five: Testing and Implementation.
So, after you’re done setting things up from step one through step four above, then it’s time that we take the app for a spin to confirm that everything is working exactly the way we want them to.
So, at this juncture, go ahead and close the app, secondly, turn off your phone’s display, now get a second phone, and use that phone to send anything that can prompt a new notification on your phone. Something like a simple text message will do just fine.
And when the notification arrives on your phone, you should see your new custom hole-punch notification LED light up around the camera hole-punch cutout of your Oppo Reno 3, 4, 5, or 6 smartphones, just the same way it is demonstrated from these pictures below.
And that’s basically how you get to set up and start making use of your own custom hole-punch-inspired notification LED on your old/new Oppo Reno smartphone.
