OpenAI’s latest announcement is that their new product SearchGPT prototype is undergoing testing just a few years after launching their AI chatbot called ChatGPT.

This tool enables its users to search the web for information but goes further than Google, Bing, and so forth. It gives its users direct answers to their queries and supplies links to the sites from which the answer came.

OpenAI shared on their official website that they are “testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources. We’re launching to a small group of users.”

However, the prototype isn’t available for most people at this time.

“We’re launching to a small group of users and publishers to get feedback,” they added. “While this prototype is temporary, we plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future. If you’re interested in trying the prototype, sign up(opens in a new window) for the waitlist.”

There are currently concerns that this search tool if it becomes too widely used, could negatively affect publishers. This is because if SearchGPT focuses mainly on well-known sources, only a few websites might make it to users’ screens.

OpenAI is also attempting to understand how publishers would prefer their intellectual properties to be displayed. Additionally, some individuals would not want ChatGPT to be trained using their belongings.

Will Google Be Dethroned?

People are pondering what OpenAI’s SearchGPT prototype undergoing testing means for Google’s dominance. Though Google’s snippets have been important, users are hoping to reduce the time spent searching for information.
