You’ve got one of those Nord phones from OnePlus right? Cool, cause today, I’m gonna show you one simple trick that lets you use the camera hole-punch cutout on your OnePlus Nord (incl. Nord 2, & CE 5G) as a customized virtual hole punch notification LED.
Here, have a look.
It looks cool, right?
That one up there is from the OnePlus 8 phone, and it also applies to the OnePlus 9 series, and if you follow the steps which will be listed and discussed extensively in this tutorial, then we can also replicate the same thing on our OnePlus Nord phones.
And here’s even another one running on a Samsung Galaxy phone, alongside its native always-on display feature.
So, you’re ready?
Well then, let’s get started. #enjoy.

How to set up and make use of a customized virtual hole punch notification LED on the OnePlus Nord (2 & CE 5G) phones.
Step One
First thing first, head over to Google Play Store and download this amazing app, it’s called the “aodNotify” app.
And what this app does is, upon its activation on your phone, it adds a glowing light ring around the camera hole-punch cutout of your OnePlus Nord (2 & CE 5G) phones whenever you have a new unopened notification, replacing the native physical notification LED which is now a thing of the past on android smartphones as a whole.
Make sure you download the one that is specifically made for OnePlus phones, or better still, you can simply tap the button that says “Install” below to do so.
When you’re done downloading and have gotten the app installed on your device, go ahead and open it, and when you do, you’ll be greeted with a welcome screen that looks this way.
Next, tap the button that says “NEXT” at the bottom of your phone screen, and this time, you’ll be taken to the app’s permission screen where you’ll be required to grant access to all the necessary permissions that the app will request from your device.
When you’re done, tap the button that says “DONE” at the bottom of your phone screen, and this time, you’ll be taken straight to the app’s homepage, and it looks something like this.

OnePlus Nord notification LED – Step Two
From the app’s homepage, tap on the first setting option you can see there which is labeled “Notification“, and you’ll be taken straight to a new page that looks this way.
From this page, you’ll be able to set the app’s behavior on your phone by setting triggers for it. Triggers can be anything ranging from app notifications to when your phone battery is low, or when you plug your phone into a power source, etc.
So, when any of these things happen, it triggers the app to turn on, which in turn gives you that light ring glow around your Nord phone’s camera hole-punch cutout.
When you’re done here, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the next option there which says “Notification light“, and you should have a new page that looks this way.
This page gives you a host of options to play with, namely; Style, Effects, and Dimensions.
“Style” lets you set the areas of your phone screen where you want the custom hole-punch notification LED to be shown whenever you get a new notification, and you can do this for both when your phone’s screen is off, and when it is on.
You can choose to set it around the entire edges of your screen, or just around the camera hole-punch cutout. And since we’re talking about a hole punch notification LED here, we’re gonna set ours to just around the camera hole-punch cutout of our OnePlus Nord phones.
And make sure you disable it completely for when your phone screen is on unless you want to be seeing a glowing light ring on your phone’s screen staring at you all the time, even when you’re making use of the phone.
The “Effects” option does what its name says, it lets you set and change different lighting effects to your hole punch notification LED, and you’ll need to be on the Pro version of the app to unlock more of those effects.
And lastly, “Dimensions” lets you resize and reposition the notification LED to fit properly with the hole punch cutout on your phones, but since the app already adapts itself to the hole punch cutout on your OnePlus Nord phones, then you don’t necessarily have to tamper with anything here.
Step Three
When you’re done settings things up from step two above, quickly find your way back to the app’s homepage, and this time, go to the next setting option there which says “Notification preview“, make sure that the toggle button in front of it is turned on, then tap on it to open it.
If activated, from this page, you’ll be able to set how you want the preview of notifications to look whenever you have a new notification.
You can set how long you want the preview to be shown, change the icon and text sizes, select what icons and content that you want to be shown in the preview, etc.
So, quickly go through that and set things up how you want them to be, and after that, make your way back to the app’s homepage, and this time, go to the next setting option which says “Settings“, and you should have a new page that looks this way.
This page is pretty self-explanatory, from here, you get to set how you want the app to behave when you have an incoming call, whether to keep showing or not to show, it also gives you the option to enable the “Double tap to wake” your phone screen gesture.
And it also has some additional settings like the power-saving feature that lets you choose when and when not do you want the app to be activated and deactivated, but those can only be unlocked when you purchase the Pro version of it.
So, quickly go ahead and set things how you want them to be, and when you’re done, for the last time, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, tap on the next setting option you see there which is labeled “Colors“.
So, once again, another quite self-explanatory page, this one lets you add colors to your custom hole punch notification LED on your OnePlus Nord (incl. 2 & CE 5G) phones.
You can set individual colors for separate apps and separate events or activities on your phone, for instance, you can use the Green color for when you receive a notification from the WhatsApp app, Blue for Facebook, Red for when your phone’s battery is low, and so on and so forth, or, you can use one general color for everything, you know the saying, “One color to rule them all”.
Final step – Testing our setup.
If you’ve followed this tutorial from step one through step three above, then it’s time that we take our setup for a spin to confirm that everything is working properly, just the way that it should.
So, go ahead and close the app, turn off your phone’s display as well, now get a second phone, and with that phone, try sending anything that can prompt a new notification to your phone, it could be a quick text message, a message from WhatsApp, etc.
And when you’ve done that, if you’ve followed the instructions, and have set everything from the app correctly on your phone, you should see your new virtual hole punch notification LED come to life on your OnePlus Nord, Nord 2, and Nord CE 5G smartphones, complete with your chosen style and effects, just like we have it here on this Samsung Galaxy phone.
So, that basically wraps it up on how to set up and start making use of a customized virtual hole punch inspired notification LED on your OnePlus Nord smartphones, kindly tell us in the comments section below if this tutorial worked for you, and if you find it helpful, kindly give it a thumbs up by sharing it, and as always, I’ll see you all tomorrow, #peace out.
