Shall we?
Yes, definitely. #enjoy.
Overview
Okay, so, the iPhone 8 was announced alongside the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X way back in September 2017, and like the 8 Plus that we already discussed, aside from the fact that it’s way cheaper than newer iPhones which is apparently the major driving force behind people going for it even when it’s almost 5 years old, I feel it’s the only iPhone still relevant and worth buying to date if you’re considering iPhones released between 2014 to 2017, which are apparently the iPhone 6, 6s, and 7 series.
Relevant in the sense that;
First of all, it’s the only iPhone (along with the 8 Plus and iPhone X) released between 2014 and 2017 that is still eligible to get occasional software updates from Apple as Apple has recently released its list of devices that will be getting the new iOS 16 update come September, and the iPhone 7 downwards are nowhere to be found.
Secondly, its got a superior build quality that is flagship-worthy if going by today’s standards, as it was the first iPhone to feature a glass back along with the IP67 dust and water resistance rating that we also saw with the iPhone 7.
In terms of performance, it’s got the Apple A11 processor running inside of it along with 2GB of RAM, though it’s not the fastest if considering what we have today, again, considering how Apple optimizes its iOS software to work with their hardware, the iPhone 8 should still be able to deliver a buttery smooth and lag-free performance in day-to-day use.
But something you should keep in mind though is the fact that all iPhones before the iPhone 12 and 13 series were notoriously known to run very hotly when in use, which again, might affect the performance after some minutes of use, especially under heavy usage.
In terms of camera, unlike the iPhone 8 Plus with its dual rear cameras, the smaller iPhone 8 came with just a single 12MP rear-facing camera and a 7MP front-facing camera which I believe is still capable of delivering very usable and social-media-ready pictures even in 2022.
And just so you know, it’s the first iPhone capable of recording 4K videos at a maximum framerate of 60fps using its rear-facing camera.
So, in terms of photography and videography, I still think the iPhone 8 should be able to deliver.
Now, coming to the battery aspect of things, the iPhone 8 came with a meager 1821 mAh, and like with the performance, past iPhones before the iPhone 12 and 13 series, have never been known for having the best battery lives, so, if you eventually decide to get this phone in 2022, you should be ready to deal with the stress of charging your phone multiple times a day and most times, having to make use of it while it’s plugged in.
Other features the phone came with include a stereo speaker setup, the 3D Touch display and Home button, and wireless charging.
So, in summary, personally, I’ll say that the iPhone 8 is still a pretty solid phone to buy in 2022, especially for people who are looking for cheaper ways to own an iPhone and don’t want to buy an outdated device.
So, it’s the least not-outdated iPhone that you can buy in 2022. Period.
