Overview
Okay, so for starters, the iPhone 6 was announced by the Cupertino company in September 2014, and it was one of the most popular smartphones during its era, and still remains the most-sold iPhone so far since the inception of Apple, and it stands now, it’s definitely one of the cheapest ways to own an iPhone for people who don’t want to spend a fortune on the newer models.
So, it’s got a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 750p resolution (HD), it’s not the sharpest around, but on a 4.7-inch sized panel, you wouldn’t notice the deficiency.
The body is made out of aluminum with Gorilla Glass on the front, and it’s still one of the sleekest-looking and slimmest iPhones to have ever existed.
In terms of performance, it’s powered by the Apple A8 20 nm processor with 1GB of RAM, and the storage variants range from 16GB and go all the way up to 128 GB.
In comparison to today’s smartphones, both iPhones and Androids, we wouldn’t say it’s the fastest, nor are we gonna say it’s the slowest either, and part of that is thanks to Apple’s good optimization of iOS to work flawlessly with less powerful chips and even less RAM.
And speaking about iOS, the iPhone 6 came running iOS 8 when it was announced in late 2015, and in Apple’s tradition, it got roughly 4 years of OS updates, bringing the final software version to iOS 12.5.5 which was released in 2018/2019.
So, if you should get this phone right now, that means you wouldn’t be getting any new software updates, and be stuck with a now-dated version of iOS.
In terms of camera, it comes with a single 8MP camera on the back and a 1.2MP camera on the front. The iPhone 6 can shoot 1080p videos at a maximum framerate of 60fps using its rear-facing camera, and 720p@30fps using the front-facing camera.
So, if you plan on using this phone to take lots of photos and videos to be uploaded on social media, then this is definitely not the phone for you.
In terms of power, the iPhone 6 comes with an 1810 mAh capacity battery, and just so you know, before the iPhone 13 series with their impressive and yet-to-be-beaten battery lives, Apple once had a bad history of having some of the worst battery lives in their past iPhones, especially with the iPhone 6 series, so, that is just something you should have in your mind if you plan on buying this phone even now that it’s over 7 – 8 years old.
And being a really old iPhone, the iPhone 6 lacks features like stereo speakers, water and dust resistance rating, fast charging, OIS on the cameras, etc.
So, you’re basically just getting a plain iPhone with old hardware and software, less-than-average cameras, a small display that might be beneficial to some people, and one of the worst battery lives ever on any smartphone.
And like I said before, the price is the only thing I can think of that will make anyone want to buy this smartphone in 2022 as it’s the cheapest way to own an iPhone right now.
