Overview
So, to begin with, the iPhone 6 Plus was announced alongside the smaller iPhone 6 way back in September 2014, and it’s safe to say that it’s the phone that inspired and shaped the future of iPhones after it, down to the iPhone X, which continued on the legacy and went further to inspire and shape future iPhones to give us what we currently have today, like the iPhone 11, 12, 13, and even the upcoming iPhone 14 series, little wonder why it still remains the most popular iPhone to date, and why people still have interest in buying it.
But fame and legacy, what do you get from this almost 8-year-old device if you eventually buy it right now?
Well, here are some of the things you should keep in mind.
First of all, as an almost 8-year-old device, the iPhone 6 Plus won’t be getting any new software updates from Apple as it’s already past its software support window from the company, in fact, the phone came running iOS version 8 out of the box and was supported for up to 4 years, the last major software update it got was the iOS 12.5.5, and that was way back in 2018.
So, if you’re getting this phone in 2022, you should know that you’ll be using it with a very outdated iOS version.
Like the software, the cameras on this thing are very outdated, as it came with an 8MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front-facing camera, which are way below the standard of what we have today even on entry-level Android devices.
So, if your sole aim in buying this phone is to take photos that will be uploaded to Instagram, Facebook, and the rest, then you should definitely let this one pass.
In terms of performance, the phone came with the Apple A8 chipset running inside of it with 1GB of RAM. And in case you don’t know, past iPhones with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus included were notoriously known for running very hot, which in return, affects the overall performance of the phone.
Though iPhones have always been known to be some of the fastest and smoothest feeling smartphones on the planet for a very long time now, what’s the use of the speed and smooth feeling if the phone won’t even let you touch it while using it?
And finally, coming to the battery, aside from the fact that the phone comes with a meager 2915 mAh capacity sized battery, again, past iPhones before the iPhone 12 and 13 series have been infamously known for having some of the worse battery lives any phones to date and coupled with the intense running temperature of the phone, you should be very ready to deal with the stress of charging your phone multiple times in a single day, and even having to make use of it while it’s plugged in most of the time.
Personally, this is not a phone I’ll recommend for anyone to buy in 2022 considering all the major flaws it now has as it ages with time. If you asked me, I would recommend the iPhone 8 Plus as it’s the closest thing to the 6 Plus in terms of looks while having better specs such as the dual rear 12MP cameras, better build quality with an IP68 rating, overall better performance even though it still runs hot, and most important of all, it’s still supported by Apple in terms of the software and will be getting the new iOS 16 update once it’s made official in September.
