So, earlier today, Infinix took to the stage to announce its latest and greatest “smartphones” yet, the Infinix Zero X “trio”.
And as implied, they come in a pack of three smartphones with the Pro leading the pack, while being armed with all the new specs and features that you could ever get on an Infinix smartphone right now like a super high refresh rate display maxing out at 120Hz, the new periscope telephoto camera lens, the bumped up charging speed all the way from 33W on the last Zero phones to 45W this year’s model, and so much more.
Then, there is the vanilla model, known simply as just the Infinix Zero X, and trust me, this phone is basically no different from the Pro version aside from the differences in their main camera sensors, and then lastly, there is the last child in the family, Infinix Zero X Neo, this one comes with way more toned down specs as compared to the Infinix Zero X Pro and the Zero X, and this places it a the very bottom of the family tree.
So, having known this, let’s dive deeper into the Infinix Zero X trio to see the new changes they bring to the table this year, and also how they differ from the last year’s Zero 8, and also tell you if you should be buying this phone or not.
And, without further ado, let’s get started. #enjoy.

So like I said earlier, the Infinix Zero X Pro is the pack leader among the three phones that Infinix announced today, and this is actually the one to get if you want to enjoy all the new specs and features that Infinix is showing off this year.
Starting off with the design, you now get a glass sandwich build, something that was mostly reserved for flagship phones, and speaking of flagships, this is actually Infinix’s own flagship phone, right?
And just so you know, this is not the first time that Infinix is using a glass build on its phones, no. The first Infinix phone to wear that crown was actually the Infinix Zero 6 smartphone from a few years back, and back then, it was also an Infinix flagship phone.
After that phone, Infinix decided to go back to using plastic or polycarbonate build on its smartphones again starting with the Zero 8 and every Infinix phone that launched before the Zero X, but now, it seems they’re back to the game with a glass build once more, and I pray this one lasts, and they don’t go back to using plastic again on the next Zero phones.
So, you’ve got a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and the back of this phone, and with this year’s iteration, Infinix is blessing us with a special new color option that features the stars in the sky at night, the Nebula Black color option.
While other color options include the Stary Silver and Tuscany Brown which I actually like most among the three.
Okay, enough of the design, and now to one of the main reasons why we’re here, the display.
So, speaking of display, what we have this year is a total upgrade from everything and anything that Infinix has ever used on any of its smartphones.
We’re talking of an AMOLED panel here guys, one that maxes out at a resolution of 1080p+ and pushing out up to 395 PPI in pixel density, and here’s the most interesting part, the display actually refreshes or ticks the clock at up to 120Hz refresh rate, impressive isn’t it?
Like, who would have imagined? To be honest, I wasn’t actually expecting this. I mean, I knew beforehand that the Infinix Zero X was gonna come with a high refresh rate feature, but my bet was set on a 90Hz rate. I wasn’t prepared for anything more than that.
And in comparison, the high-overpriced Tecno Phantom X smartphone maxes out at 90Hz, so with the Zero X Pro being armed with 120Hz, I will say this is super impressive.
So, kudos to Infinix on that one.
And now, let’s talk about the cameras.
So for the first time, we’re seeing a 108MP camera sensor on a “commercially available” Infinix smartphone, and for the first time again, we’re seeing a periscope telephoto camera sensor, still on a commercially available Infinix smartphone.
Both sensors are fitted with Optical Image Stabilization, and the 8MP telephoto sensor can actually go all the way up to 5x optical magnification with its 125mm focal length. Infinix is claiming that you can use this camera to take bright and clear close-up photos of the moon at night.
The last sensor at the back of the phone is the 8MP ultrawide sensor with a 120° field of view, and it also doubles as a macro sensor, thanks to its autofocus feature.
So, as you can see, this year, there are none of those gimmicky AI sensors or 2MP macro and depth sensors that clearly do nothing but just fill up space and are used for marketing purposes as well.
The rear cameras can shoot up to 4k videos at 30fps (frames per second), and it even has a super slow-motion video recording mode, rated at 960fps.
Present on the front of the phone is a 16MP wide shooter that sits nicely in the reasonably sized hole punch cutout at the top of the phone’s screen, it comes complete with a front-facing flash for those who love to take selfies at night, and the maximum video shorting resolution tips the scale at 1080p at 30fps.
All three phones under the new Infinix Zero X family comes fitted with a Mediatek Helio G95 chipset, the RAM capacity across the three phones is sitting at 8GB, and the phones even have a virtual RAM expansion feature where you can add an additional 3GB of RAM on top of the 8GB, using the phone’s internal storage. Infinix calls the feature the “Memory Fusion Technology 2.0“.
So, in terms of performance, the Infinix Zero X Pro is not a phone that will leave you wanting for more in terms of day-to-day performance, gaming should be smooth and all that, but, I for one think that it would have made more sense and sounded better to the ears if Infinix had used a processor from one of Mediatek’s Dimensity lineup.
But, even at that, the Helio G95 chipset present here is no slouch, and it has even proven to be slightly better than the Snapdragon 720G and 732G both present in the Samsung Galaxy A52, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro phones.
And as for software, the Infinix Zero X Pro as well as its other two siblings come running Android 11 out of the box as expected, and this android version is in turn laced with a makeover of Infinix’s own XOS 7.6 Dolphin UI, if you’re a long time user of Infinix smartphones, you should already know what type of looks and features that you should expect here.
Keeping the lights on here is a 4500mAh power cell that is fitted with up to 45W superfast charging, and Infinix claims that this can literally take the Zero X and X Pro batteries from flat to up to 40% of battery juice, in just 15 min of charging. Impressive right?
In terms of pricing, the Infinix Zero X Pro currently retails for about ₦180,000 in Nigeria, which should be equivalent to $437 when converted, so, is the Infinix Zero X Pro a good deal at this price point?
Well, considering that the Tecno Phantom X with similar specs retails for about ₦228,000, I will say, yes, the Infinix Zero X Pro is definitely a good deal and one that you should get if you’re currently looking to buy a new Infinix smartphone.
Now let’s talk about the Zero X.
The Infinix Zero X
- Key Specs
- 6.67 Inches 1080p+ (Full HD+) 120Hz AMOLED display.
- Front & back glass build (Gorilla Glass 5).
- Mediatek Helio G95 mobile processor.
- 64MP main camera sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)..
- 8MP 125mm periscope telephoto camera sensor with OIS (5x optical zoom).
- 8MP 120° ultrawide camera sensor with AF (Autofocus).
- 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage.
- Android 11 + XOS 7.6 Dolphin UI.
- 4500mAh battery + 45W charging.
- Side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner.
Coming to the vanilla Infinix Zero X phone, well, the thing is, there is nothing much to say here, cause everything that needs to be said, has already been said while reviewing the Infinix Zero X Pro.
So, the only differences are; first, the main rear camera has been downgraded from 108MP on the Pro phone to 64MP on the non-pro model, and secondly, instead of an under-display optical fingerprint reader as was found on the Zero X Pro, Infinix has instead gone for the good old tested and trusted side-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader on the regular model.
Aside from those two differences, there is nothing else you’ll find on the Zero X Pro that you won’t find on the regular model.
120Hz high refresh rate AMOLED display, check.
Dual Corning Glass 5 front and back build, check.
8MP periscope telephoto camera, check.
Always-on display, check.
4500mAh battery + 45W superfast charging, check.
So, with these, how much do you think the Infinix Zero X will actually cost against its Pro sibling?
Well, for a slightly less capable camera and the omission of an in-display optical fingerprint scanner, the Infinix Zero X retails for about ₦150,000, which is a whole ₦30,000 off the price of the Pro model, and it’s a good thing, considering that you’re missing or losing much from what you’d get with the Zero X Pro.
So, once again, kudos to Infinix for giving a great budget smartphone at a great budget price.
And finally, we last child in the family;
The Infinix Zero X Neo.
- Key Specs
- 6.78 Inches 1080p+ (Full HD+) 90Hz IPS LCD display.
- Mediatek Helio G95 mobile processor.
- 48MP main camera sensor (no OIS).
- 8MP 125mm periscope telephoto camera sensor with OIS (5x optical zoom).
- 2MP Black and white sensor.
- 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage.
- Android 11 + XOS 7.6 Dolphin UI.
- 5000mAh battery + 18W charging.
- Side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner.
The Infinix Zero X Neo is where there is a lot of differentiating factors that set this phone apart from the rest of the Zero X family.
In fact, looking at it from an angle, you might even think the phone is not part of the Zero X family. To start with, the 120Hz AMOLED display on the Zero X and X Pro has been swapped for a 90Hz LCD panel, but the resolution still maxes out at 1080p+.
The Zero X Neo follows the same design as its two elder and more powerful siblings, but Infinix never told us if the material it was made with is still glass or not, so, no words on those for now.
And coming down to the cameras, the camera setup on this thing has been downgraded and pushed even further down the drain by featuring a 48MP main sensor, the 8MP Periscope telephoto sensor is still present though, complete with OIS, but, there is no ultrawide camera sensor here, as Infinix took a step back to its old ways of doing things by swapping the ultrawide sensor in favor of a 2MP black & white sensor.
Another aspect where there has been some sort of slight upgrade and downgrade is on its battery capacity and the maximum charging speed that goes along with it.
So, on here, Infinix has pushed the battery capacity from 4500mAh on the Zero X and X Pro, up to 5000mAh on the Neo, but, don’t rejoice yet, cause the charging speed here has been downgraded to just 18W.
So, in theory, you get a slightly longer and better battery life, while sacrificing a faster-charging speed.
As of the time of writing this article, Infinix hasn’t said anything concerning the pricing of the Zero X Neo, and I’m not even sure if the phone will be available in Nigeria.
Conclusion.
So, in conclusion about the three smartphones, or better say, the Zero X and X Pro, I will say that they are a very good step in the right direction for Infinix, but, as it is with everything man-made, there’s still room for improvement.
Like I mentioned earlier, the processor on these things would have been better, and I feel that Infinix was exaggerating too much on the moon capturing capability of the phones.
But, who cares, I mean, who captures photos of the moon anyway? 2 out of 10 people I guess? So, it’s not a deal-breaker if you asked me.
So, great phones with great build qualities, amazing displays, good performance, capable cameras, superfast charging, etc.
Should you buy the Infinix Zero X phones? Yes, definitely, if you have the cash, and you’re in need of a new Infinix smartphone with all the cool new specs and features that you could get on an Infinix smartphone right now.
And that wraps it up for the Infinix Zero X, X Pro, and X Neo quick first impressions and review, kindly tell us what you think about these phones by leaving a comment for us in the comments section below, and if you enjoyed reading this article, kindly give it a thumbs up by sharing it, and as always, I’ll see y’all tomorrow, #peace out.
