Design & handling

To kick off with this comparison, let’s start by talking about both phones’ design, and speaking of which, I will say that in terms of just looks alone, I will give it to the Infinix Zero 5G.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I like how Infinix has kept things flush and simple on the Zero 5G as compared to the Zero X Pro, especially when looking at the camera arrangement on the back.

I love how the camera module is kept simple and less cluttered unlike on the Zero X Pro and other Infinix phones in general where they’re mostly clogged up and jam-packed together, and they’re just all over your face even with unnecessary wordings written all over the place.

While on the Zero 5G, things are kept as minimal as they can get, and I’m tempted to say that it kind of adds this professional stylish vibe to it like what you’d get from other smartphones from even more expensive brands.

But aside from the simplistic look, that’s all that the Infinix Zero 5G has going on for it in terms of design, as the Zero X Pro on the other hand has a premium glass build as opposed to plastic on the Zero 5G, and it should even feel more compact in the hand because it measures a reasonable 164.1 x 75.7 x 7.8 mm in height, width, and thickness respectively, versus the 168.7 x 76.5 x 8.8 mm measurement of the Zero 5G;

So, to conclude the design aspect, I’ll say that the Infinix Zero 5G wins it if going by the looks alone, while the Zero X Pro wins it by offering a better and premium build quality, and a more compact feel in the hand.

So, is it safe to call it a tie? Yeah, I think it is.

Display

And coming to the display, well, I already think there is a clear winner here, but I still think the Infinix Zero 5G doesn’t have a bad display either.

So, for starters, we have a 6.67 inches sized Full HD+ AMOLED panel on the Zero X Pro, comes with a 120Hz screen refresh rate, and boasts of a maximum brightness rating of 700 nits.

While the Zero 5G on the other hand, comes with an even larger 6.78 inches sized panel, it’s still a Full HD+ resolution display, but this time, the AMOLED panel on the X Pro has been swapped in favor of LCD on the Zero 5G, but it still retains the 120Hz screen refresh rate, and the maximum screen brightness can only manage up to 500 nits.

So, if you’re asking which of these displays is the best one, well, personally, I’ll say that it’s subjective, in the sense that, if you want a larger display that doesn’t skimp on the resolution and screen refresh rate, then the Infinix Zero 5G’s display is in no way a bad one, even with the absence of an OLED panel;

But if on the other hand, you don’t mind the smaller display of the Zero X Pro, which definitely, I do not, and you want more vibrant colors with true blacks, then the Infinix Zero X Pro’s display is once again, a superb display for its class.

I would have called it a tie, but it’s not, so, the Infinix Zero X Pro wins it on this one.

Cameras

And coming down to the cameras, well, we might just have another clear winner here once again, and that is apparently the Infinix Zero X Pro.

So, while the Zero 5G rocks a triple camera setup on its rear, which is a 48MP main cam with a 13MP 2x optical telephoto lens, and a 2MP depth sensor with quad flash which I really like, the Infinix Zero X Pro, being the flagship smartphone that it is, comes with a flagship-worthy camera setup.

So, on here you get a higher resolution 108MP main cam with dual Pixel phase detection autofocus, complete with OIS, then there is an 8MP sensor with a proper periscope telephoto lens that can do up to 5x optical zoom, still with OIS, and lastly is another 8MP ultrawide sensor.

Both phones boast of the same 16MP front-facing sensor, but while the Zero X Pro can record up to 4K resolution videos at 30fps using its front-facing camera, the Zero 5G can only manage to do up to 1080p@30fps. While for the rear cameras, both phones can each handle up to 4K@30fps.

So, as you already guessed, the Infinix Zero X Pro will take both better pictures and record better videos using its front and rear-facing cameras, and with the advantage of being optically stabilized, so, it wins this round by a stretch, and that’s a fact.

But can it beat the Zero 5G when it comes to speed and processing power? Well, let’s find out.

Performance & speed

Okay, so why the Infinix Zero X Pro is still a pretty fast phone with its MediaTek Helio G95 processor, it’s still many miles behind the Dimensity 900 5G chipset that is used on the Zero 5G.

As a matter of fact, the Zero 5G will comfortably feed dust to the Zero X Pro when it comes to raw benchmarks results, but I’m tempted to say that when it comes to day-to-day performance, none of these smartphones will leave you disappointed.

Another area where you will have a first-hand experience of the true power of the Dimensity 900 5G chipset is when it comes to gaming, as the Zero 5G will play games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Genshin Impact at higher resolutions and higher framerates than what the Infinix Zero X Pro can manage.

And just so you know, both phones are fitted with 8GB of RAM as the standard, and both have up to 128GB as their base storage, with the Zero X Pro pushing it up with an even larger 256GB capacity variant.

Another advantage that the Infinix Zero 5G has going for it in terms of performance is the storage system type as it supports the UFS 3.1 standard, while the Zero X Pro follows closely behind, with the old UFS 2.2.

This simply means faster read and write speeds for the Zero 5G, which should result in faster app opening and loading times.

So, in terms of performance, though the Zero 5G wins this round by a stretch, that doesn’t make the Zero X Pro any slower in terms of sheer performance.

Software

And finally, coming to the software and overall user experience on these both phones, personally, I’ll say that it’s a tie even without using any of the phones in person.

I mean, this is Infinix that we’re talking about here, right? So, basically, that means we should be expecting a similar user or software experience from both.

So, starting with the Android version, both phones load Android 11 out of the box, but while the Zero 5G comes with Infinix’s latest version of the XOS UI on top, the XOS 10, the Zero X Pro came with the now outdated XOS 7.6 Dolphin.

But don’t let the numbers deceive you though, as whatever you get on this version, is the same thing you’ll get on the other one, with just a few UI tweaks here and there, but both of them are basically the same thing, in and out.

And when it comes to which of these smartphones will be getting Android 12 updates, personally, I can’t vote in favor of any of them for now.

I mean, Infinix initially promised an Android 12 update for the Zero X series when they were announced, but it’s been months already since Android 12 was officially announced, and even rumors of Android 13 are beginning to surface, and yet, Infinix hasn’t said a single thing about the promised Android 12 update for the Zero X series.

And to make matters even worse, this is not the first time that we’ll be getting such empty promises from Infinix whenever they’re announcing a new smartphone, so, basically, it’s safe to assume that none of these phones will be getting the said Android 12 update, sadly.

So, in terms of software, I’ll call this round a tie.

Battery & pricing

So, in terms of battery, while the Infinix Zero X Pro flaunts a smaller capacity sized battery at 4500 mAh but charges at an impressive 45W charging speed, the Zero 5G comes flexing a massive 5000 mAh, but loses out on the charging race with 33W charging speed which is still impressive if you’d ask me.

So, for battery, it all depends on what you want, do you want to sacrifice battery capacity for faster-charging speed like on the Zero X Pro, or do you prefer to have a much larger capacity battery, but at a slightly reduced charging speed?

That decision is left for you to make. And finally coming to the prices, with the Infinix Zero X Pro being a flagship device, it carries a similar flagship-like price tag along with it.

So, it will set your wallet back at ₦228,000, but the Zero 5G carries a more affordable price tag at ₦169,500.

Conclusion: Which one is better?

So, having seen the specs of both phones, their performance, cameras, and most especially, their varying price tags, which one do I think is the better device, and which is the recommended phone to get in 2022?

Well, like I’ve said before, it’s subjective.

The Infinix Zero X Pro is a flagship device, and as such, it should be seen as one, even with its less performing processor as opposed to the Zero 5G, and while the Zero 5G currently is the only 5G-enabled and fastest Infinix smartphone on the planet right now, it still remains a mid-range device.

So, the real question should be like this;

Do you want a flagship smartphone, or do you want a mid-range one?

The Zero X Pro has its AMOLED display going for it, a better build quality even it doesn’t look better than the Zero 5G, at least, to me, it’s still got the better overall camera system, and faster charging too.

But if you want a speedy device on a budget, one that is fitted with 5G capabilities, then the Zero 5G is not a bad device at all, in fact, at a slightly more affordable price, it’s not a far throw from what you’d get on the Zero X Pro.

So, in conclusion, both of them are great smartphones on their own rights, and it boils down to what you’re looking for, and how much you’re currently willing to spend on a smartphone.
