INTRODUCTION
So finally, the long awaited Infinix Note 7 smartphone has been launched, and for those who don’t know, this is the seventh iteration of the Infinix Note phones or phablets rather, since the company ditched the Hot Note series, and went fully fledged to producing Note sized devices, hence the name, Infinix Note 7.
Looking at what this year’s Note device brings to the table, I’m pretty sure that a lot you folks out there, are definitely gonna be excited about it, while for some persons like me, it might not really meet up to our expectations, due to some of the basic specifications and features that it lacks.
So today, we’re gonna be reviewing the said Infinix Note 7 smartphone, to see what makes this device specifically amazing, and some of the areas where it doesn’t really look exciting some nitpicky persons like me.

DESIGN & DISPLAY
No doubts, the Infinix Note 7 is a stunning looking smartphone when you first set your eyes on it. But just so you know, this is one extra large phone that will pose a threat to users with small hands.
It is both tall, measuring 173.4mm in height, and wide, measuring about 79mm in width, and even thick too, measuring about 8.75mm in thickness.
And i don’t know, but maybe due to its enormous 5000mAh battery, it also has some pants falling weight to it, weighing up to 206g in heft.
So if you’re the type of person that likes your phones to be sleek, slim and light in weight, then i think you’d have to skip this one, and maybe go for its immediately younger sibling, the Infinix Note 7 Lite.
But if all of those things don’t matter to you, then you’d be happy rather for what the Infinix Note 7 is packing in all that huge body.
Packing in one of the biggest displays ever on an Infinix smartphone and even on all smartphones as a whole, I’m talking of a glaring 6.95 Inches display here, with a hole punch camera cutout, skipping the need for a notch or a motorised pop-up selfie camera like its near cousin, the recently launched Infinix S5 Pro, I’d say that the Infinix Note 7 is a phone that is targeted at chronic hardcore mobile gamers, and heavy media consumers as well.
But one disappointing factor,or two rather, about the display, but one which shouldn’t stop anyone from getting the device if they wanted to, is the lack of an OLED panel and at least, a Full HD resolution on it, just like its last two predecessors, the Infinix Note 5 and 6 smartphones. (the Note 5 shipped with an LCD panel, but does so, with a Full HD+ resolution).
For this device, the resolution is capped at HD+, that is exactly 720 x 1640 pixels for those who care about figures.
But personally, i think that for a display of such size, at least up to a Full HD+ resolution would have sounded better to the ears, and looked better to the eyes, but Infinix missed their chances.
Okay enough of the display, now turning the phone to its back reveals a quad camera setup array that is arranged in a circular module at the very top side of the phone.
Then still inside the circular camera module, but below the cameras themselves, is a quad flash setup, which in turn makes the whole camera module to look like one of those emojis that are found on our touch keyboards when you take a look at it from a distance.
Then below all that are some write-ups and branding words that says “Infinix ▪ NOTE“. But if you looked closely, you’d notice that there is no fingerprint reader at the back of this particular device, and that is because, the fingerprint reader has been moved to a new location.
If you guessed under the display, you are wrong. The fingerprint reader has been merged with the power button on the right side of the phone. Nothing too new to be excited about though, but just to let you guys know.
And speaking about the sides of the phone, on the right side you have your usual placements, volume rockers + power button which now doubles as a fingerprint reader, then on the left side is a single sim tray that houses two nano-sims + one micro-SD card.
At the top is nothing, then at the bottom is where you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack, next to it is a microphone hole, a micro-USB 2.0 18W fast charging port, and finally, your speaker grills which teams up with the earpiece at the top of the phone to double as a dual speaker setup.
But if you looked closely, you’d observe that past generations of Infinix phones such as the Note 5 Stylus and Note 6 usually have two round holes in them. One for 3.5mm headphones jack, and the other acting as a housing for the Infinix X-Pen that is iconic with its Note smartphones.
Personally I’d say that i am particularly disappointed with Infinix for removing the X-Pen on this particular Note device, just the same way that i am disappointed with them for shipping a 6.95 Inches display device with a generic LCD panel and at 720p resolution.
Personally, i feel that this is a phone where the X-Pen would have made more sense the most, because of its, you already know, extremely large display, but Infinix missed that chance the second time, and it is their loss, not mine.
The Infinix Note 7 ships mainly in three colors, namely; Forest Green, Aether Black, and Bolivia Blue.
So that’s all about the design and display of this smartphone, now let’s see what this smartphone is packing under the hood in terms of performance.
INFINIX NOTE 7 REVIEW – PERFORMANCE
In terms of performance, the Infinix Note 7 is a phone that is not gonna leave you wanting for more, no matter what kind of task that you throw at it.
Wielding one of the newest gaming focused processors from Mediatek, the Mediatek Helio G70 chipset, the Infinix Note 7 will run even the most graphics demanding games such as PUBG, Asphalt 9, etc effortlessly, without breaking a sweat.
The 5000mAh battery in it is also there, making sure that your gaming and movie streaming sessions are not short lived by annoying low battery notifications.
And even if you managed to drain the juice out of this guy, taking it up once again from 0-100% takes less time than it does on other Infinix Note phones, approximately 1hr and 30mins.
So like i said earlier, the Infinix Note 7 is a smartphone that is targeted at chronic hardcore gamers, and heavy media consumers, simply because of its large display, capable processor, and a long lasting and fast charging battery.
Oh, and lest i forget, did i also mention that this thing ships with dual speakers that are tuned with DTS 3D surround sound enhancement?
Well, if i didn’t, now i did, and so you’ve known. So that’s all about the performance guys, now let’s take a look at how photos taken on this bad boy’s 48MP Quad camera array looks, shall we?
CAMERAS
So, like you already know, the camera on the Infinix Note 7 is a 48MP one, then it is backed up by a 2MP depth sensor for taking portrait shots, a second 2MP lens for taking close-up macro shots, at least as it was advertised, then a third 2MP camera that acts as a dedicated video sensor.
Don’t know what that means, cause personally, i haven’t been able to see and pick any differences from videos shot on this phone, and videos shot on other Infinix smartphones such as the regular S5, the S5 Pro, and even the Note 6 before it.
But just so you know, in terms of picture quality, photos taken on this smartphone appears to be plenty sharp, crisp and with good amount of details, on the bright side, it will look satisfying to an average smartphone user who just needs a phone with good cameras to take photos that will be uploaded on social media most of the time.
But for those who are nitpicky and pay close attention to details, you’d notice that on taking landscape photos, the skies are all the time overexposed, making them look white in color.
And as for portraits, well what i will tell you is that, you don’t expect to get the same level of perfection that you’d get on thousand dollar smartphones such as Samsung flagships and iPhones, on a phone that costs just a little less than a hundred thousand naira.
To learn more about the camera, you can head over to this video below, it starts from the 11th minute, where it talks about the camera of the Infinix Note 7 smartphone in details.
SOFTWARE
For software, this thing ships with android 10 out of the box, with Infinix’s new version of its XOS UI, the XOS 6 Dolphin, with no hopes of it getting updated to android 11 by next year (just so you know).

Don’t let the name of the new XOS UI deceive you, this still remains a typical Infinix smartphone, with a typical XOS UI running in it.
Personally I’d say that it doesn’t bring anything special to the table, cept for the fact this one is based on the long awaited android 10 operating system, and by so doing, it comes with dark mode, and android’s 10 gesture-based navigation system.
You’d have to have a first-hand experience of the phone yourself to see it in action, but just so you know, you can swipe in from the right or left edges of the screen to go back to your previous screen, swipe up from the bottom to go to your phone’s home-screen, and then a short swipe up and hold action will take you to your recent apps menu.
In addition to that, you still have all the XOS UI based gestures still intact, Infinix bloatware apps aren’t leaving any soon, and i think that is all.
If you have used any of the recent Infinix phones from last year, running android pie with XOS 5 Cheetah, then you should be familiar with this one as well.
INFINIX NOTE 7 REVIEW – PRICING
One thing that you have to know is that, the Infinix Note 7 came at a period when the earth was having one of its periodic cramps, and as a result, the prices of commodities, especially electronics, were hitting the roofs.
The Infinix Note 7 smartphone is currently sold for about 67,500 Naira for the 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage model, then the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model goes home with you for a price of 78,000 Naira, and then finally, there is much larger 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage model that is sold for about 89,500 Naira.
Expensive right? Well, you can blame it on the Corona-virus pandemic.
CONCLUSION
So in conclusion, if you asked me who the Infinix Note 7 smartphone is meant for, well like i already said a couple of times, it is meant for chronic hardcore mobile gamers, and heavy media consumers.
What if you already own the Infinix Note 6 or even a Note 5 Stylus, would it be wise to upgrade to the Note 7?
Well it all boils down to our individual preferences. If you know that you’re okay living without an X-Pen on a Note device, and you’re not bothered about the fact that you’ll be moving or downgrading rather, from a device with a Full HD+ OLED display, to one with just an LCD panel, and it’s capped at 720p resolution, then you can do just fine upgrading to the Note 7.
Things you stand to gain includes;
- The latest android version with XOS 6 Dolphin on top.
- A high performance mediatek processor.
- Pretty large display for gaming and media consumption.
- Stereo speaker setup.
- Long lasting + fast charging battery
- And maybe, a better camera system.
