Huawei Mate X2 Announced: The Newest Foldable Phone On The Streets.

Huawei was among the earliest adopters of folding phone designs way back in 2019 alongside Samsung, and the Mate X2 is currently their latest addition to the newly-born Mate X lineup and their third attempt at the folding phone brouhaha.

As expected, the Mate X2 brings quite a lot of upgrades in more ways than one over its predecessors like the Mate X and the Mate XS.

To start with and the one which is the most significant change of them all is that the Huawei Mate X2 now folds inwardly and has a second outer display just like Samsung’s own Galaxy Fold series, as opposed to the single display + outward folding mechanism of the previous Mate X(s).

The inner display when unfolded, reveals a humongous tablet-sized 8.0 Inches OLED panel that refreshes at a top speed of 90Hz, and the resolution is capped at 2200 x 2480 pixels, with pixel density peaking at 413PPI density. Now if you asked me, I would comfortably say that this one bada** display.

The second display which is the outer one is a 6.45-inch panel, OLED as well, and it carries over the same 90Hz refresh rate DNA from the inner display. This time, resolution is capped at 1160 x 2700 pixels, and pixel density tops out at 456PPI. Both displays should be one hell of fun to use if you ever happen to get your hands on this beast of a phone.

And speaking of beasts, the Huawei Mate X2 is driven by the same HiSilicon Kirin 9000 5G 5nm chipset that is found running inside the flagship and camera-king Huawei Mate 40 phones that were announced late last year.

This processor is paired with 8GB of RAM, and you can get the phone with either 256 or 512GB of internal storage sizes.

Oh! And just so you know, the Huawei Mate X2 is the only foldable phone in the world right now that folds seamlessly and completely. That is, it doesn’t leave any gaps between the top and bottom displays when folded, just like its opposing rivals Samsung.

For cameras, the Mate X2 comes with almost the same camera setup as the Mate 40 Pro+, with the only difference being the 16MP ultrawide sensor on the foldable, as opposed to the 20MP variant on the Mate 40 Pro+.

Other sensors include a 50MP main with laser autofocus, a 12MP telephoto that can attain up to 3x optical zoom levels, and a second telephoto lens, but this time, it is of the periscope variant and can reach zoom levels of up to 10x optically as well, and then the last sensor here is the aforementioned 16MP ultrawide. On the front lies another 16MP sensor for taking selfies.

The Huawei Mate X2 boots Android 10 out of the box, which has a make-over of Huawei’s EMUI 11 on it, a 4500mAh battery is here to keep the lights on, and in case this said light goes off, Huawei has fitted the Mate X2’s battery with up to 55W super-fast charging speeds, and this simply means lesser charging times for the phone.

The phone will be available for purchase in China starting from February 25, and the prices are as follows; 18,000 Chinese Yuan for the 256GB model, and a thousand more (19,000 Chinese Yuan) for the 512GB model. When converted to its dollar equivalent, we’re looking at 2,787 and 2942 United States dollars worth of phones. Pheeew…
