Europe-based researchers have discovered Hamster Kombat malware targeting Android and Windows users.

Hamster Kombat is a Telegram game where players strive to earn in-game coins by tapping continuously on their device’s screen. The game, only a few months old, gained popularity, possibly because it provided users accustomed to tapping on their phone screens a chance to earn real money.

However, researchers at ESET revealed shocking news on Tuesday, suggesting that some people may have downloaded malware instead of the genuine Hamster Kombat game.

According to the researcher who discovered and explained the situation, Lukas Stefano, malicious actors have begun exploiting the game’s popularity to their advantage. This unfortunate development was not unexpected.
