Straight to the point. Today I’m gonna show you a way you can use the front-facing camera hole-punch cutout at the top of your Samsung Galaxy M51 display, as a customizable virtual hole-punch inspired notification LED in place of the traditional blinking LED that has now gone extinct on modern phones of nowadays.
The process involves downloading a third-party app from Google Play store, the “Always-on Edge” app, and I guess a lot of you should already be familiar with this app before now.
As the name implies, the app is a third party always-on display app, but this time, we’re gonna use its always-on display feature to create a light ring around the camera hole-punch cutout of our phones, so that it only lights up and glows around the cutout whenever we have a new notification while the phone is lying idle and the screen is off.
Something that looks like this.

So, how do we recreate this on our Samsung Galaxy M51 phones?

How to setup a customizable virtual hole punch inspired notification LED on your Samsung Galaxy M51 phone.
Step One
First of all, we have to go to Google Play store and download the said app, or better still, you can do so by simply tapping on the “Install” button below.
When you’re done downloading and installing the app, feel free to open it, and when you do so, you should be taken straight to the app’s homepage, and it looks something like this.
Step Two
From this homepage, select the first option there “Main Settings” by tapping it, and when you do so, you should be greeted with a new page that looks like this.
This page lets you grant the app access to the “Required” and “Optional” permissions that it will request from you in order to function properly on your phone.
And like every other settings page on the app, they’re all made up of expandable tabs which when clicked or tapped, they reveal all the grouped setting options that are hidden in then. And when you tap on the expandable tabs on this page, you’ll have an even lengthier page like the one below.
So go ahead and grant access to the app’s necessary permissions requests, and when you’re done, don’t forget to save your settings before leaving the page, and meet us on the next step.
Samsung Galaxy M51 Notification LED – Step Three
After saving your settings from the last step above, now go back to the app’s homepage and this time, tap on the second setting option there that says “App Settings“, and you should be taken to a new page that looks like this.
From this page, you’ll be able to set how you want the app to interact with your phone. You will be able set what actions or activities on your phone that can trigger the app such as when you receive a new notification while the phone’s screen is off, or when you plug the phone to a power source, etc.
And for the sake of what this tutorial is all about, we’re gonna set the app to be only triggered when we receive a new notification and the phone’s screen is off, so that it acts as a notification LED.
Once again, don’t forget to save your settings when you’re done, and quickly meet us on the next step.
Step Four
For the second time, go back to the app’s homepage, and this time, select the third option there that is labeled as “Lighting Settings“, and you should have a new page that looks like this.
It is from this page that we’ll get to set the actual hole punch inspired notification LED itself, by first introducing it in form of a light ring, then we’ll try to align it with the physical hole punch cutout on our Samsung Galaxy M51 phone, so they that both of them (virtual LED and physical cutout) fits correctly, then we can customize it by adding colors, effects, styles, etc.
So go ahead and expand all the tabs, and you should have one lengthy-as* long page like this one.
So like I said, we’ll start first by introducing the virtual hole punch notification LED in the form of a light ring, then we’ll try to align this light ring with the hole punch cutout on our Samsung Galaxy M51 phone.
Follow the steps below to achieve this.
- Make sure that the option that says “Enable Edge Lighting” is enabled as you could see from the picture above.
- Now go to the tab that says “Enable Notch Support“, and from there, enable the option itself that says “Enable Notch Support“, and make sure that yours is set to “Adjust Manually“.
- For “Notch Type“, select “O” because that is definitely the shape of the camera hole-punch cutout of the Samsung Galaxy M51 phone.
- Now take your eyes down a little bit, and you should see three positioning options which you can choose from, “Right, Left and Center“. Select the one that says “Center“.
- After doing that, you should see a slider option that is labeled as “Top (set 0 if not hole)“, use this to move the notification LED either upwards or downwards, so you can position the light ring correctly with the hole-punch cutout on your phone.
- Use the slider that is labeled as “Notch Height” to either increase or reduce the size of the light ring in case yours was initially bigger or smaller than the actual hole punch cutout on your phone so that they are both fit properly. You can set “Notch Width” and “Curve Radius” both to zero since they absolutely do nothing at this point,
- Now go all the way down and stop at the portion of the page that says “Lighting Placement“, tap on it to expand it, and from there, select the option that says “Around Notch Only”.
- Once you do so, you should see that the other edge lights that were shown around the edges of your phone screen will disappear, leaving you with just the one that is shown around the camera hole-punch cutout of your phone. Cool right?
Now if you followed the steps above correctly, you should have your own light ring perfectly aligned with the physical hole punch cutout of your Galaxy M51 phone.
If that is true, you can now go ahead and start customizing the light ring in whatever way that you can possibly think of. All the setting options that you’ll need to do that are all right there on the page.
The app lets you to change the color of the light ring, or you can take it up a notch by mixing up to three different colors together. You can add lighting effects to the mix, Edge styles, which has a whole lot of options you can choose from, increase or decrease the lighting edge thickness, etc.
So, go ahead and customize things until you’ve had it to your heart’s fill, and when you’re done, don’t forget to save your settings, and this is the point where we’ll be required to take the whole setup so far, for some testing.
Samsung Galaxy M51 Notification LED – Step Five
So, like I said, it is time to take our setup so far for some testing, to see if everything is working correctly the way they should, and the way we’ve set them to work.
Go ahead and close the app, make sure that you saved your settings. Now turn off your phone’s display as well. Get a second phone and quickly use it to send a short text or whatever that can prompt a notification on your phone, which will in turn, trigger the app to light up.
Now if you did everything correctly, you should have something that looks like this (without the digital clock face though, unless you already have the digital clock face widget and notification app icons added to yours.).
And that is how you setup a customized virtual hole punch inspired notification LED on your Samsung Galaxy M51 phone that lights up whenever you have a new notification on your phone.
How to add the time and clock widget to your setup
To add the clock and time widgets and even the notification app icons to your setup just as you saw from the picture above, all you have to do is simply go back to the app’s homepage, select the fourth option there that says “Extra Widgets“, and from there, you can add any of the widgets offered by the app.
