ChatGPT Censors Scottish National Anthem

Reactions are increasing after an astonishing discovery was made recently which I went to verify and found to be correct. ChatGPT censors a Scottish national anthem ‘O flower of Scotland’ for reasons we shall look at below.

If you asked ChatGPT what the national anthem of Scotland is, it would reply that it is ‘O Flower Of Scotland’. This is only a half-truth, since the European state has no official national anthem. But this is not the part that is causing reactions.

It is this part: if you asked ChatGPT to show you the lyrics of the Scottish national anthem, you will get just the first two lines of it, or less.

Astounding, right?

The result I got from ChatGPT on the lyrics of the Scottish national anthem was as follows:

O flower of Scotland,
When will we”

Possible Reasons Why ChatGPT is Censoring Scotland’s National Anthem

ChatGPT is possibly censoring Scottish national anthem ‘O flower of Scotland’ because some contents of the song might be offensive to some English people. The song immortalised Scotland’s victory under Scottish king, Robert the Bruce, over Edward II, king of England, when he tried to conquer Scotland at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.

Another reason is that due to the root of the national song, it is can also be used for taunting English people.

However, the anthem in itself looks as harmless as can be, and only celebrates this special victory over England. Why OpenAI, the owners of ChatGPT are still allowing their machine to censor the anthem is still shrouded in mystery.

Scotland Has Other National Anthems

Scotland has several national anthems, but none of them sits on the official throne. Scotch sportsmen and sportswomen only select the anthem they want to use at a particular time, but it is ‘O flower of Scotland’ that is the most popular.

Little wonder why ChatGPT usually calls it their national anthem though it is not that officially. OpenAI is yet to make a statement for the benefit of Scotland and the globe from which we would know why ChatGPT censors a Scottish national anthem.

AIs are censoring so brainlessly that some in the global community are afraid about what it might filter off in the future.
